Bandar Seri Begawan, Feb 12 — The SINAR Project, Brunei’s‑largest‑scale solar‑energy initiative, was officially launched on Pulau Muara Besar. Implemented by Chinese‑backed Hengyi Industries, it marks a landmark achievement of China‑Brunei cooperation on low‑carbon green development.
After the completion of its first‑phase construction, the project can generate 84,000 MWh of clean electricity each year, covering 7 percent of the energy demand of the local refinery. It will cut carbon‑dioxide emissions by 137,180 tonnes annually, helping Brunei deliver its national target under Brunei Vision 2035 to raise the share of renewable‑energy capacity to at least 30 percent by 2035 .
A representative from the Chinese Embassy in Brunei stated that green development forms a vital part of building the China‑Brunei community with a shared future. China stands ready to continuously share practical experience in clean‑energy solutions and ecological restoration, and support Brunei’s efforts in climate‑action, rainforest conservation and marine‑ecosystem protection. Senior Bruneian officials spoke highly of the joint project, noting that green‑energy partnership will deliver long‑term momentum for Brunei’s economic‑diversification strategy.
