Xi Jinping Meets with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh

On the afternoon of August 31, 2025, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam, who was in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, at the Tianjin Guest House.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that during his state visit to Vietnam in April this year, the two sides reached important consensus on advancing the building of the China-Vietnam Community with a Shared Future under the new situation. All departments and localities of the two countries should step up efforts to implement the consensus and push for more substantive results in China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperation. Facing the accelerating evolution of the once-in-a-century changes and the intertwined international situation of changes and chaos, China and Vietnam should firmly uphold confidence in their paths and systems, strengthen solidarity and collaboration, and ensure that the ship of the China-Vietnam Community with a Shared Future always sails steadily in the right direction.

President Xi Jinping congratulated Vietnam on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and emphasized that China supports Vietnam in successfully convening the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. China is willing to deepen exchanges of experience in party building and state governance with Vietnam, maintain high-level exchanges, and coordinate the advancement of strategic cooperation between the two countries. The two sides should actively promote cooperation in such fields as connectivity, digital economy and artificial intelligence, strengthen experience exchanges in the construction of free trade zones and special economic zones, and help each other's national modernization drive. They should continue to successfully hold the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam and the "Red Study Tour" for Vietnamese youth to China, and create more projects that benefit the people. They should also strengthen multilateral coordination and safeguard the common interests of the Global South.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the cordial greetings of General Secretary Su Lin and President Liang Qiang to General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, stating that the close high-level exchanges between the two parties and two countries of Vietnam and China embody the profound friendship of "comrades plus brothers". Vietnam and China share common strategic interests and are fellow travelers on the socialist journey. Developing relations with China is a strategic choice and top priority of Vietnam's foreign policy. Vietnam is willing to strengthen strategic alignment with China, expand trade and investment, enhance connectivity, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, unite as one, help each other, and work together towards modernization, which is in the interests of both countries and conducive to world peace and stability. Vietnam is very pleased to see China's major development achievements and its important contribution to the world economy. President Xi Jinping's three major global initiatives lead global governance and contribute Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions to addressing common challenges. The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit will be of an unprecedented scale. Vietnam is willing to uphold the "Shanghai Spirit" and work with China to promote greater development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
