The School of Foreign Languages boasts a strong faculty, comprising 77 staff members. Among them are 4 professors and 23 associate professors, and one is awarded the title of Provincial Distinguished Teacher of Higher Education of Shandong, 25 faculty members have overseas visiting experience, and 16 hold doctoral degrees.
The School of Foreign Languages currently offers three undergraduate programs: English (Teacher Education), Translation and Interpreting, and Cross-border E-commerce. Among these, the English (Teacher Education) program received accreditation through the Ministry of Education’s teacher education program evaluation in 2022 and has since grown into a flagship program of the School.
The School of Foreign Languages serves as an authorized test center for the English Major Band 4 and Band 8 examinations (TEM-4 and TEM-8), the Business English Band 4 and Band 8 examinations, and the CATTI International Translation Certificate. The School is also equipped with a micro-teaching laboratory, a phonetics training laboratory, a simultaneous interpretation training laboratory,and a translation training laboratory.
The School of Foreign Languages has established two distinctive disciplinary directions: English Education and Pedagogy, and Culture and Business Translation. It has achieved significant accomplishments in both teaching and research.
Faculty members have repeatedly received university-level honors such as “Exemplary Teacher Award,” “Advanced Educator,” “Model Teacher of Ethics,” and “Outstanding Teacher.” They have won a total of 63 awards in teaching competitions at the national, provincial, and university levels, including 5 first prizes, 19 second prizes, and 35 third prizes at the provincial level.
Since 2010, the School has secured 36 provincial and ministerial-level research grants and 54 bureau and commission-level grants. Faculty have published over 141 academic papers in journals both in China and abroad, of which more than 21 are indexed in CSSCI. They have also published 50 monographs, translations, and textbooks, with two textbooks selected for the Ministry of Finance’s 13th Five-Year Plan for textbooks. Furthermore, the School has received over 30 research achievement awards, including the Shandong Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.
The School of Foreign Languages has established well-developed mentoring teams for postgraduate entrance examinations, associate-to-bachelor (top-up) programs, and various academic discipline competitions. Guided by the philosophy of "holistic education" — educating students in all aspects, throughout the entire learning process, and with the involvement of all staff — the teams provide comprehensive support for students and have achieved remarkable results.
Students have consistently ranked among the top universities in Shandong Province in the Shandong Provincial Normal University Students' Teaching Skills Competition. To date, 19 students have won first prizes, with three of them placing first overall; 18 students have won second prizes, and 14 have won third prizes. Most of these award recipients have signed employment contracts with high schools, middle schools, and primary schools across the province.
In various language proficiency competitions — including English speaking, reading, writing, interpretation, translation, and comprehensive business English skills — students have won a total of 540 national and provincial awards. Additionally, students have received more than 50 research grants and have published 19 academic papers in journals.
Our students have been admitted for graduate studies to prestigious universities both in China and abroad, including Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Xi’an International Studies University, Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Ocean University of China. Over the past three years, the admission rate for postgraduate programs has been approximately 25%.
Our students also participate in a number of major international and domestic conferences and events, providing services such as foreign affairs reception and Chinese-English interpretation. These experiences enable them to apply what they have learned in real-world settings and achieve continuous self-improvement.
