1. English Subject Teaching

English Subject Teaching is a key disciplinary direction fostered by the university in the field of pedagogical research. Drawing on the strengths of the English (Teacher Education) program, it takes pedagogy, psychology, foreign language and literature, management, modern information science and technology as its theoretical guidance. It enables students to systematically master the professional knowledge framework and research methodologies for English subject teaching, and apply their knowledge and competencies of English to basic English education and teaching practice. The program integrates disciplinary knowledge, teaching practice and educational theories, realizes seamless connection between the two collaborative training entities of universities and primary & secondary schools, and establishes mechanisms and platforms for the joint training of Master of Education candidates between universities and primary & secondary schools, so as to meet the development demands of basic education in the local region.

Profile

Song Xiukui, Third-grade Professor, Doctor and Master’s Supervisor, is a Distinguished Teacher of Higher Education in Shandong Province and a high-level talent of Jinan City. She currently serves as Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Qilu Normal University. Her main research interests include English education and teaching, ecocriticism and cultural translation.

She has presided over 8 research projects, including the National Social Science Fund Project, Humanities and Social Sciences Planning Fund Project of the Ministry of Education, Social Science Planning Research Project of Shandong Province, and Key Undergraduate Teaching Reform Project of Shandong Province. As the first core participant, she has taken part in 2 National Social Science Fund Projects and 7 provincial and ministerial-level projects. She has published 3 academic monographs and translated works, compiled 3 textbooks, and released more than 30 academic papers, among which 8 are indexed in CSSCI.

She has won 5 major awards, including the Excellent Social Science Achievement Award of Shandong Province, Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Award for Institutions of Higher Education in Shandong Province, Excellent Soft Science Achievement Award of Shandong Province, and Excellent Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award of Shandong Province. She is the person in charge of a national first-class undergraduate course.

In addition, she holds concurrent posts as Chairwoman of the Minjian Branch of Qilu Normal University, expert for university evaluation under the Ministry of Education, Vice President of the International Business English Committee under Shandong Foreign Economic Association, Executive Director of Shandong Foreign Literature Society, and Director of Shandong Translators Association.

2. Language, Culture and International Communication

Relying on the "Research Center for Qilu Culture (Language and Characters) and International Communication", a National Language Promotion Base of Qilu Normal University, as well as the "Qilu Culture English Translation Research Team" of the School of Foreign Languages, the discipline of Language, Culture and International Communication mainly engages in research on the translation of traditional Chinese culture and ancient Chinese classics, as well as comparative studies and communication research of Chinese and foreign cultures. It focuses on the translation and introduction of Qilu culture and the construction of Chinese-English parallel corpora for Qilu culture, highlighting Shandong Province’s prominent status as a major cultural province. Demand-oriented, it maintains close cooperation with world-famous translation companies in translation research, translation practice and the training of translation professionals.

Profile

Chen Feng holds a Doctor’s degree in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. He is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor. He is a member of the International Association of Syntactic Cartography (IAOSCS) and the International Association of Applied Linguistics, Executive Director of the International Society of Chinese Rhetoric, Executive Director of the Applied Linguistics Committee under Shandong Foreign Languages Association, Director of the College Foreign Language Education Special Committee under Shandong Foreign Languages Association, Director of Shandong Foreign Languages Association, and Executive Director of the International Business and Language Service Committee of China Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Enterprise Association. He also works as an anonymous reviewer for Lingua, an SSCI-indexed journal.

His research interests cover linguistic theories, second language acquisition and foreign language teaching, as well as Chinese-English linguistic comparison and international communication. He has published more than 20 papers in core academic journals including Foreign Language Teaching (CSSCI), Modern Foreign Languages (CSSCI), Linguistic Studies (CSSCI) and Foreign Languages and Literature (Chinese Core Journal). He has presided over or participated in more than 20 research projects, such as the General Project of the National Social Science Fund, research projects under the Shandong Social Science Planning Program, Shandong Humanities and Social Science Research Projects, Shandong Educational Science Research Projects, and Shandong University Philosophy and Social Science Research Projects. He has won six academic awards, including the Shaanxi University Humanities and Social Science Research Achievement Award, the Excellent Paper Award for Postgraduate Academic Innovation in Theoretical Linguistics of Jiangsu Province, and the Annual Excellent Paper Award of Shandong Foreign Languages Association. He has published 2 academic monographs and edited volumes, and compiled 2 textbooks as the chief editor.
