To effectively support students of the Class of 2026 in preparing for postgraduate reexaminations, help them accurately grasp the key requirements of reexaminations in the translation field, and comprehensively enhance their test-taking competence and confidence, the School of Foreign Languages recently organized an online guidance session specifically for postgraduate reexaminations in translation studies. The session was coordinated by the Translation Teaching and Research Section, with faculty members Feng Xiaoling and Li Baiwen serving as instructors, providing targeted and highly focused guidance for students applying to translation-related postgraduate programs.
At the beginning of the session, Feng Xiaoling and Li Baiwen outlined the overall structure and core components of the guidance program, emphasizing that the session would center on mock reexamination interviews and professional feedback. The aim was to help students familiarize themselves with the reexamination process in advance and clarify key preparation priorities.
During the mock interview segment, students took turns delivering bilingual self-introductions in both Chinese and English. They shared information about their preliminary examination results, target universities, and intended specializations, and exchanged views on the content and focal points of the Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) reexaminations. Drawing on their own preparation experiences, students openly discussed their study plans and challenges, creating an orderly yet lively atmosphere of interaction.
In the feedback and commentary session, the two instructors provided individualized and detailed evaluations of each student’s self-introduction and preparation status. Focusing on the core competencies required in translation reexaminations, they systematically analyzed the overall reexamination process, key areas of professional knowledge assessment, and effective approaches to addressing current translation-related topics. In-depth guidance was offered on high-frequency interview questions, strategies for optimizing English self-introductions, and logical frameworks for responding to translation practice questions. Students were reminded to solidify their professional foundations and demonstrate strong translation competence and language proficiency.
At the same time, the instructors emphasized practical aspects of reexamination performance, including standards of oral expression, interview etiquette, and on-the-spot response strategies. Through representative cases, they shared practical preparation tips, guiding students to identify personal strengths, refine their expressive logic, and adjust their examination mindset, effectively addressing common pain points and difficulties encountered during preparation.
In response to students’ questions regarding preparation challenges, reexamination planning, institutional differences, and adjustment (transfer) options, the instructors provided patient, one-on-one answers and offered personalized, targeted advice. The session was rich in content and clearly focused, with active online interaction, helping students clarify their preparation direction, master practical examination techniques, and alleviate reexamination-related anxiety.
This online reexamination guidance initiative represents another thoughtful and student-centered practice by the School of Foreign Languages in strengthening postgraduate examination support. Over the years, the School has remained committed to a student-centered approach, integrating high-quality educational resources and providing comprehensive, ongoing support across the entire postgraduate preparation process—from planning and preliminary exam coaching to reexamination guidance.
Looking ahead, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to cultivate a strong foundation for talent development, further optimize its postgraduate support mechanisms, and accompany students on their academic journeys with services that are both professional and compassionate. Through these efforts, the School aims to empower students to achieve their academic aspirations, nurture high-caliber foreign language professionals, and promote the high-quality development of its educational programs.
