To strengthen students’ interpreting practice skills and intercultural competence, support preparation for the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” competition, and further enhance students’ cross-cultural communication abilities, the School of Foreign Languages hosted a specialized interpreting selection salon on December 25. The event was guided by Mr. Ji Zhonglong, with student Lu Jiale serving as the moderator.
The salon was structured around three main components: an introduction to the event and competition overview, interpreting demonstrations and experience sharing, and hands-on practice of core interpreting skills. At the outset, Lu Jiale introduced the objectives of the salon. Mr. Ji Zhonglong then provided an in-depth explanation of the competition rules, with a particular focus on the two key modules—sight translation and consecutive interpreting—offering clear guidance for students preparing for the competition. Subsequently, students Li Tingxuan and Tan Nuoyan delivered English–Chinese and Chinese–English sight translation demonstrations respectively, and shared practical strategies drawn from their competition experience, including time management, handling complex sentence structures, and systematic accumulation of interpreting materials. In the final skills practice session, participants engaged in reading exercises and received targeted feedback on pronunciation and segmentation, while hands-on memory and note-taking drills enabled them to gain deeper insight into essential interpreting techniques. The session featured lively interaction and active participation.
This interpreting selection salon provided students with a close-up platform to engage with interpreting competitions, enabling them to better understand the assessment focus and preparation pathways of the “ETIC Cup.” It also supported students in testing their abilities in realistic settings, identifying weaknesses, and making timely improvements. Looking ahead, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to integrate high-quality teaching resources, promote regular interpreting training and selection guidance, and strive to help more students enhance their professional competence and comprehensive abilities through sustained language practice.
