To spark students’ enthusiasm for English learning, support preparation for the “ETIC Cup Cup” public speaking competition, and enhance intercultural expression and impromptu speaking competence, the School of Foreign Languages held a specialized public speaking salon on December 22 in Room B214 of the Second Teaching Building. The event was guided by Ms. Lin Dejiang and Ms. Zhang Jinjun, with students from various schools participating.
At the beginning of the event, the host introduced the theme and agenda of the salon, highlighting detailed rules for cross-school team registration and calling on students from different schools to form teams and prepare together. The session then moved to the core lecture segment, during which the two experienced instructors analyzed classic competition prompts from the “ETIC Cup Cup.” They offered in-depth guidance on key competencies such as framing impromptu speeches, developing arguments efficiently, and expressing cross-cultural themes with clarity and impact. In the final ten-minute Q&A and open discussion, the instructors addressed students’ questions regarding eligibility, competition procedures, and other practical concerns. Students actively contributed to the discussion, fostering experience sharing and intellectual exchange across schools.
The public speaking salon not only provided students with hands-on guidance for “ETIC Cup Cup” preparation—effectively strengthening their speaking techniques and intercultural communication skills—but also deepened cross-school collaboration and co-creation. Looking ahead, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to institutionalize such specialized salons, focusing on the cultivation of students’ comprehensive language competence and practical abilities, and supporting them as they pursue excellence on high-level language competition stages.
