From September 11 to 13, Wen Ke, a faculty member of the School of Foreign Languages, participated in the 18th International Conference of the Asian Association for Lexicography (ASIALEX), held at Fudan University. During the conference, Wen delivered an academic presentation entitled “A Discourse-Based Study on the Compilation of Bilingualized Learners’ Dictionaries.”

In the presentation, Wen approached bilingualized learners’ dictionaries from the perspective of discourse linguistics, examining the theoretical and practical challenges encountered in the process of translation. Through detailed case studies, the presentation analyzed both the synchronic and diachronic characteristics and developments of existing bilingualized dictionaries in terms of definitions and illustrative examples. A research framework integrating discourse linguistics and Skopos Theory was proposed, offering new insights for the compilation and revision of bilingualized learners’ dictionaries. The study attracted wide attention and sparked lively discussion among conference participants.

The conference brought together experts and scholars in lexicography, linguistics, and language education from Asia and other regions around the world. In-depth discussions were held on a range of cutting-edge topics, including lexicography and large language models, challenges facing lexicography in the AI era, monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual lexicography, dictionary use studies, and pedagogical lexicography. Wen’s participation and presentation not only demonstrated the School of Foreign Languages’ strong academic foundation in lexicography and translation studies, but also further strengthened academic exchange and collaboration with domestic and international peers. Looking ahead, the School will continue to support faculty engagement in high-level academic activities and promote the integrated development of research and practice in linguistics, translation studies, and foreign language education.
