The early summer brings warm sunshine, and the spirit of volunteerism passes from one generation to the next. On May 24th, volunteers from the "Words & Dreams" Volunteer Service Team headed for Wenhui Road Community and Washan Community to carry out volunteer English teaching. Dividing the work well and cooperating seamlessly, they devoted themselves to teaching with passion and sincerity. The teaching tasks were successfully completed in a pleasant and heartwarming atmosphere.

Volunteer Teaching Journal at Wenhui Road Community

We arrived at Wenhui Road Community on Sunday. Before class, we refined lesson plans and divided tasks carefully, then went to the classroom with full enthusiasm.

We found that the students had vastly different English levels. Some children had a weak foundation: they struggled with word spelling, mispronounced words, dared not speak up, and absorbed new knowledge slowly.

Instead of feeling anxious, we accompanied every child patiently and helped them make steady progress with kindness and tolerance.

At the start of the class, Zhang Haiyun reviewed English numerals from eleven to nineteen with the children.

Many students had vague memories and confused pronunciations. She slowed down the teaching pace, split each word into syllables and read aloud sentence by sentence, correcting mispronunciations repeatedly.

For slower learners, she offered one-on-one tutoring and constant encouragement to get them to read bravely. Little by little, the children consolidated these numerals and built confidence in English learning.

Next, Huang Xiaorui taught weather words including sunny, rainy, cloudy and windy.

Instead of rigid rote learning, she explained word meanings with vivid body language and real-life scenarios.

Full of energy, she kept practising pronunciation with the whole class and kept pace with every student. Even less advanced children could understand and master the vocabulary effortlessly and enjoy the fun of English.

After that, Wang Ruying focused on practical conversational patterns:

"Can you play football? Yes, I can."

"Can you ride a bike? No, I can't."

Most shy students were too hesitant to make dialogues. She remained patient and enthusiastic, guiding them to read aloud and practise in pairs.

With her gentle guidance, the reserved children gradually overcame shyness and tried simple Q&A, making the classroom increasingly lively.

At the end of the lesson, Han Junjiao taught the seven days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

These long words were difficult to spell and memorize, posing a big challenge for students with poor foundations.

She designed an engaging chain reading game to involve everyone.

For children who kept making mistakes, she repeated pronunciation drills tirelessly. Her sincere company relieved their fear of difficulties, so they mastered the words in a relaxed environment.

Throughout the class, we never left any underperforming children behind. We gave targeted tutoring and patient guidance.

Although the teaching only lasted a morning, every explanation and encouragement was full of sincerity.

We met the children with our small efforts and nurtured their growth with passion. We helped them make up for their shortcomings in English, while gaining touching experiences and personal growth through volunteer service.

In the future, we will keep holding on to our original aspiration and passion, keep engaging in community teaching services. We will spread warmth through language and support children’s growth with company. We will keep moving forward steadily on the road of volunteer teaching.

Volunteer Teaching Journal at Washan Community

We began our volunteer teaching today with warmth and anticipation. When we walked into the classroom, the children’s bright smiles and sparkling eyes filled the room with vitality and lifted our spirits.

Yu Yuqian led a warm-up activity: teaching the Months Song to help children memorize words from January to June.

Standing before the projector, she pointed at the word list and invited everyone to sing along. The children listened attentively in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

Zhang Zhaohan guided students in oral English practice with the theme Let's Talk: Find the Answers.

She taught the key sentence pattern: "It's in + month" to state the time of activities.

Two examples were displayed on the screen: the English party is in April and the school trip is in May.

The children sat upright, watching the teacher and the screen carefully.

With bright lighting and motivational slogans on the wall, the classroom was focused yet energetic. The teacher practised sentences and dialogues with the class, and students read aloud, picking up new knowledge step by step.

In the community activity room, Gao Kaiyi bent over beside the desk, tutoring two little boys patiently.

Wearing glasses, she pointed at the textbook and explained exercises carefully.

The boys looked up and listened with full concentration.

Bathed in sunlight, the whole scene was filled with the warmth of learning.

Guo Zhibin organized a group task titled Group Task: Design Your School Calendar!

He explained the three steps: choose an activity, decide on a month, and share ideas.

The children listened carefully, resting their chins or staring at the teacher with curiosity.

Posters of Party members and the Chinese Dream decorated the walls, creating a cozy learning environment.

His vivid explanation kept the children fully absorbed.

This simple volunteer class was more than just teaching vocabulary, sentence patterns and gratitude education; it embodied the power of united small efforts.

We connected with children through constant companionship, bringing them knowledge and warmth, and planting in their hearts the desire to learn and be thankful.

It was not merely knowledge transmission, but also young people’s practice of repaying society and passing on kindness.

These small volunteer actions carry young people’s sense of responsibility. One ray of light lights another. We guard children’s growth with company and let youth shine bright in dedication and service.
